Agrigulture Secretary Vilsack, USDA Report Highlights Recovery Act Broadband Projects
On June 7, the Rural Utilities Service in the U.S. Department of Agriculture released a report titled Connecting Rural America which outlines the projects being funded under the first round of awards made under the Recovery Act’s Broadband Initiatives Program (BIP), administered by RUS. A copy of the report is available here:
In the first of two scheduled funding rounds, RUS awarded $1.1 billion for 68 broadband projects in 31 states and one territory. These projects will also provide services to 19 Indian and Alaska Native communities, including the Fort Berthold Reservation in North Dakota and the Coeur d’Alene Reservation in Idaho. A second round of successful BIP applicants will be announced later in the year.
