House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Releases Report on Recovery Act Funding for Highway Projects

On May 5, the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure released a report on the latest data for the distribution on American Recovery and Reinvestment Act formula funds invested in highway and bridge projects. According to the report, nation-wide, $34.4 billion, or 91% of the $38 billion available for highway, transit, and wastewater infrastructure formula program projects under the Recovery Act has been put out to bid on 17,472 projects. Within this total, 15,724 projects, totaling $31 billion or 82 percent, are under contract and work has begun on 13,796 projects totaling $28.5 billion, or 75 percent of the total amount available. Work has been completed on 4,541 of these projects, totaling $3.7 billion.

The Recovery Act appropriated $550 million for roads on federal and Indian lands, of which $310 was for the Indian Reservation Roads program. 59% of these funds has been distributed.
