DOT gets $10 million grant to rebuild deadly stretch of reservation highway

One of the most dangerous roads in western South Dakota will be renovated thanks to a $10 million grant from The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

A 15.6-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 18 from Oglala to Pine Ridge is scheduled for reconstruction.

Sen. Tim Johnson D-S.D. said the high-priority project on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation will improve the Oglala and the Pine Ridge areas by making the roads and sidewalks safer, add gutter and sewer improvements, improve transportation infrastructure and help strengthen the economy in South Dakota.
