Head Start Expansion Grants Available Under Recovery Act
On January 20, the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Office of Head Start, in the Department of Health and Human Services posted on www.Grants.gov an announcement of the availability of Head Start expansion grants funded under the Recovery Act. Approximately $6.8 million is to be competitively awarded to current Head Start grantees for the purpose of expanding enrollment of low-income pre-school age children and their families in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, Wyoming, and the territories. The grant announcement is available here:

ACF solicits applications from existing federally funded Head Start agencies to compete for funds that are available to provide services to unserved children and families residing in the defined federally approved service areas or nearby unserved areas. Applicants proposing to both expand within their current service area and to establish a new program in an unserved area must submit separate applications.
The closing date for applications is March 8, 2010.
