Department of Labor Announces Awards for Pathways Out of Poverty Training Grants
On January 13, Secretary of Labor Solis announced the awarding of 38 grants totaling $150 million under the Recovery Act for green jobs training grants under the “Pathways Out of Poverty” program. One of the grants was awarded to the White Earth Band of Chippewa of Minnesota.
“Pathways Out of Poverty” grants support programs that help disadvantaged populations find ways out of poverty and into economic self-sufficiency through employment in energy efficiency and renewable energy industries. Targeted populations receive recruitment and referral services; basic skills, work-readiness and occupational skills training; supportive services to help overcome barriers to employment; and other services in order receive certifications and on-the-job training that will lead to employment.
