Department Of Agriculture Announces $58 Million More in Recovery Funding Awards for Rural Community Facilities Projects
On July 29, Department of Agriculture Secretary Vilsack announced funding of an additional $58 million under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for 102 essential community facilities and emergency responder projects in 32 states through the USDA’s Rural Development Community Facilities program. The Community Facilities program provides loans and grants to finance and develop essential community facilities in rural areas, including childcare centers, hospitals, medical clinics, assisted living facilities, fire and rescue stations, police stations, community centers, public buildings and transportation. Tribes are among the entities eligible to apply for loans and grants under the Community Facilities program. Several tribes and tribal organizations were included in this awards announcement, including the following:
- Maniilaq Association, AK;
- Norton Sound Health Corporation, AK;
- Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation, AK;
- Pleasant Point Passamaquoddy Reservation, ME;
- Lumbee Regional Development Association, Inc., NC; and
- Red Cloud Indian School, Inc., SD.
