Eligibility and Type:
Any fire department that has a formally recognized arrangement with a state, territory, local or tribal authority to provide fire suppression to a population within a fixed geographical area on a first-due basis.
Program Description:
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program will award $210 million directly to modify, upgrade or construct non-federal fire stations to enhance their response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel with respect to fire and all other hazards.
The Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program is an important component of the Administration's larger, coordinated effort to strengthen the Nation's overall level of preparedness and ability to respond to fire and fire related hazards. Generally AFG funds have been distributed to first-responder organizations to purchase response equipment, personal protective equipment, and vehicles.
Funding Notices:
Evaluation criteria is not known at this time. Past AFG grants have been awarded through a peer review process. The peer group is primarily fire department chiefs and captains. Tribal fire departments personnel are encouraged to participate in the peer review process if it is utilized.
